Collin Veijer ready for home Grand Prix at the Dutch TT in Assen
Following an encouraging weekend in Brno, Collin Veijer heads to the TT Circuit Assen full of confidence for the tenth round of the Moto2 World Championship. For the 21-year-old rider from Staphorst, the Dutch TT is traditionally one of the most important and special events of the season, where he can once again count on the support of thousands of Dutch fans.
Veijer enjoyed a solid Grand Prix weekend in the Czech Republic last time out, crossing the finish line in eleventh place. The result was the reward for a weekend in which clear progress was made in terms of speed and feeling with the bike. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider is eager to continue that positive momentum this weekend at his home circuit.
Veijer’s history at the TT Circuit Assen provides plenty of confidence. During his Moto3 years, he finished an impressive seventh in his debut season before securing second place a year later after starting from the front row. In his Moto2 debut at Assen last season, he managed to score a valuable World Championship point despite a difficult weekend, thanks to a trademark overtaking move in the final chicane before the finish line.
With 41.5 points, Veijer currently occupies eleventh place in the Moto2 World Championship standings. Racing in front of his home crowd, he hopes to take another step forward and challenge within the leading group.
Collin Veijer: “Last week in Brno we managed to make a number of positive improvements, and that has been very important heading into our home race. Assen is always something special for every Dutch rider and we’ve had some great races there in the past, so we want to try and repeat that this weekend. Last year wasn’t easy in my first Moto2 season, but we still managed to score a point in the end. We want to build on that now and keep working step by step to be as well prepared as possible for Sunday’s race. I’m going to try and enjoy every moment and give the Dutch fans a great show.”
The Moto2 riders will take to the track for the first time on Friday morning during Free Practice 1, which starts at 09:50 local time. The 22-lap Moto2 race is scheduled to begin on Sunday afternoon at 12:15 at the TT Circuit Assen.
