Collin Veijer successfully undergoes surgery for broken collarbone

Collin Veijer successfully underwent surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday morning to repair a fracture to his left collarbone. The 21-year-old rider from Staphorst sustained the injury last Friday during the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring.

Veijer crashed on Friday in the closing stages of the first free practice session while exiting Turn 6. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider suffered a fracture to his left collarbone in the incident, bringing his Austrian Grand Prix weekend to a premature end.

Veijer travelled from Austria to Barcelona on Saturday to prepare for the required surgery. The procedure took place at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus – Grupo Quirónsalud and was performed by trauma specialist Dr. Xavier Mir.

The surgery was successful and Veijer is in a stable condition following the initial postoperative checks. The Dutch rider is expected to be discharged from hospital within the next few hours before flying back to the Netherlands.

Veijer will then immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation. At this stage, it is not yet known when the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider will be able to return to his Moto2 machine. The timing of his return will depend on the progress of his recovery.

For Veijer and his team, the coming period will be fully focused on ensuring the best and most responsible recovery possible. Further updates will be provided once there is more clarity regarding his physical condition and a possible return to racing.
