Collin Veijer to miss Japanese Grand Prix due to collarbone injury

Collin Veijer will not compete in this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix at Mobility Resort Motegi. The 21-year-old Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 rider has not yet recovered sufficiently from the collarbone fracture he sustained during the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring.

Collin Veijer crashed at Turn 6 during the first Free Practice session. Subsequent medical examinations revealed that he had fractured his collarbone, bringing his race weekend to an early end.

In order to ensure the best possible recovery, Veijer travelled to Barcelona, where specialists at Hospital Universitari Dexeus determined that surgery was necessary. The operation was successfully performed on Tuesday, 22 September by trauma specialist Dr Xavier Mir. Two days later, Veijer returned to the Netherlands to continue his recovery at home.

Although his recovery is progressing well, the Japanese Grand Prix from 2 to 4 October comes too soon. In consultation with his medical team, the decision has therefore been made to sit out the race weekend at Motegi.

The focus now shifts to a possible return at the Indonesian Grand Prix at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit one week later. Whether Veijer will be able to get back on the bike in Indonesia will depend on the progress of his recovery over the coming days.
