Collin Veijer concludes Malaysian Grand Prix with strong seventh place

Collin Veijer concluded the Malaysian Grand Prix with a solid seventh-place finish. The 21-year-old rider from Staphorst endured a difficult opening phase at the Sepang International Circuit but fought his way back to seventh position thanks to a strong finish, making three overtakes in the final four laps. With this result, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider moves up to tenth place in the Moto2 World Championship standings.

Under demanding conditions, with track temperatures reaching as high as 53 degrees Celsius, Collin Veijer started Sunday’s race from sixth position on the grid. The Dutchman lost two places at the start and struggled to find the right feeling with the front end of his KTM during the opening stages. As a result, he was unable to maintain his desired pace and dropped back to tenth position during the first half of the race.

However, Veijer remained in touch with the group battling for sixth place and managed his tyres well. As the race progressed, his feeling improved, allowing him to increase his pace. With four laps remaining, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider began an impressive charge through the field. He overtook three riders in succession and secured seventh place on the final lap.

With his fourth-best result of the season, Veijer added another nine points to his tally. This brings his total to 89.5 World Championship points, moving him up two places in the overall standings to tenth position.

Collin Veijer (P7 – +17.705): “I’m happy with today. I think we made some important progress over the weekend. We also tried out a few things that were outside my comfort zone, and they all worked out well. The opening laps weren’t easy, but I pushed myself to the limit and waited until the final stages, when tyre wear really kicked in. I didn’t have the best feeling with the front end, but we managed to stay with the lead group and get faster as the race went on. I was able to catch some other riders, and the feeling was quite good, so it’s a very positive way to end the weekend. Now, we need to carry this momentum over to Qatar next weekend.”

Following an intense overseas race weekend in Malaysia, Veijer and Red Bull KTM Ajo now turn their attention to the next round of the Moto2 World Championship in Qatar. The twentieth round of the season will take place at the Lusail International Circuit from November 6–8.
