Collin Veijer achieves best Qualifying result of the season with P16 in Brno
The second day of the Czech Grand Prix ended with Collin Veijer securing 16th place on the grid – his best qualifying result of the season so far.
Unlike Friday, Saturday at the Czech GP featured sunny and clear conditions, allowing the Moto2 riders to complete Free Practice 2 with full confidence. Veijer completed 15 laps as he focused on improving consistency at a circuit where tyre degradation will be a decisive factor in Sunday’s race. He ended the session in 23rd place with a best time of 2:00.272.
Temperatures rose significantly ahead of Qualifying compared to the morning session, and Veijer continued to make solid progress in Q2. The Dutch rookie achieved his best qualifying result of both the season and his Moto2 career. He set his fastest lap just before returning to the pits for a tyre change. Despite pushing hard in the final minutes to improve his time, his 1:59.411 remained his best – a full eight tenths quicker than his fastest lap on Friday. In total, he completed seven laps in the session.
Collin Veijer: “The feeling wasn’t too bad today. In the morning we struggled a little bit over the longer run, but we were ready for Qualifying. In Q2, the first lap was quite tricky because I had a big moment at Turn 6, so it took a bit of time to find the right feeling. After that, we pushed as hard as we could and managed to secure 16th. It’s not exactly what we were aiming for, but it’s a solid result for tomorrow. Now we need to analyse everything carefully to be as prepared as possible for the race.”
After two days of steady progress, Collin Veijer will aim to finish the Czech Grand Prix in the points. The Moto2 race in Brno starts at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday and will be contested over 18 laps.
