Fourteenth Place for Collin Veijer at Home Grand Prix
Collin Veijer completed Sunday at the TT Circuit Assen a survival Moto2 race full of incidents with a strong performance. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider climbed eight places to score two valuable points on race day.
The Dutchman made an excellent start, gaining five positions on the opening lap to move into 17th place. Veijer continued to push and broke into the Top 15, although the fast pace at the front soon spread the field, making it difficult for him to stay in the battle for points. In the second half of the race, despite the high risk on a crash-filled Sunday, he steadily gained ground, moving up to 15th on the penultimate lap. A final-corner overtake on Ayumu Sasaki secured 14th place at his home race, marking his fourth points-scoring finish of the season. Veijer now sits 20th in the overall standings with 13 points.
Collin Veijer, P14 | +23.656: “I’m happy with the points we achieved today in front of my home crowd. There were a lot of crashes during the race, but we managed to stay up, so it’s a positive result. It was not an easy weekend, but we enjoyed it a lot with all these amazing fans, so let’s see what we can do at Sachsenring. We now have a week off, in which we want to prepare as best as possible for the next double-header. I’m very motivated after this home Grand Prix, so let’s try to keep this up for Germany and the Czech Republic.”
The Moto2 World Championship continues at the Sachsenring on July 11–13 for the German Grand Prix.
