Twentieth Place for Collin Veijer in Italian Comeback
Collin Veijer completed a grueling comeback race at the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy with a 20th-place finish, just 4.8 seconds outside the points. It marked his first race weekend back after five weeks off the bike following surgery on his right arm.
The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 rider started from 22nd on the grid and made early progress, moving into the Top 20. For much of the race, he battled closely for 19th position alongside two other riders. As the laps wore on, the intense heat and physically demanding Mugello circuit took their toll, but the Dutchman held on, maintaining a consistent pace all the way to the checkered flag.
Collin Veijer (P20, +16.830): “It was a tough weekend, especially physically. After five weeks off the bike, I knew it was going to be a challenge. I already felt a bit tired before the race, but once we got going, I actually felt good—although it became really tough after ten laps. I’m glad to be back, even though P20 is not where we want to be. But given the circumstances and the injury, I’m just happy to be racing again. It was incredibly hot, and the circuit is physically demanding, with lots of changes from left to right. In the last five laps, it got really hard; I even had to throw up in my helmet at one point. Still, I’m satisfied with how I felt and with what we showed out there. We now need to work on improving our qualifying and focus more on race preparation. I want to thank everyone who has continued to believe in me and supported me during my recovery.”
Veijer now looks ahead to his home Grand Prix in Assen, where he remains 19th in the Moto2 World Championship standings with 11 points.
