Collin Veijer qualifies twelfth for Moto2 race in Brno

Collin Veijer qualified twelfth on Saturday afternoon for the Moto2 race of the Monster Energy Grand Prix of Czechia at the Automotodrom Brno. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider enjoyed a solid build-up to the race but was unable to maximise his full potential during qualifying.

In warm conditions on Saturday morning, Veijer focused primarily on his race pace during the second free practice session. The 21-year-old rider from Staphorst completed a fifteen-lap long run – more than any other Moto2 rider in the session – and set the twelfth-fastest time with a lap of 1:58.760.

Temperatures continued to rise in the afternoon, with track temperatures reaching approximately 50 degrees Celsius. During Q2, Veijer managed to improve his lap time further, but traffic during his second run prevented him from making the most of his full potential. As a result, he had to settle for twelfth place on the grid, securing a spot on the fourth row.

Collin Veijer: “This morning went pretty much ok. We tried a long run but we had a small problem with the rear tyre, so let’s see what happens over a long distance tomorrow. The pace is there, but we need to show it on Sunday. During Qualifying, we couldn’t show all of our potential, so we’re not very happy about the final result. We need to accept it, as it’s not a complete disaster, and see what we can do from the fourth row of the grid. We’re focused on the race and very motivated to achieve a good result here.”

The eighteen-lap Moto2 race will get underway on Sunday afternoon at 12:15 pm local time at the Automotodrom Brno.
